Bailey Baldwin's Heart Fund

02/24/14- Since this page has started for Bailey, she has certainly had her share of ups and downs. It was December 16th when she was officially placed on the Heart Transplant List. But, it was December 30th that changed everything. After going through her third heart failure, she was placed on a Berlin Heart, which is a machine that does all the work for her. This has, for Bailey, and for many others like her, saved her life and made her much stronger while she waits for her new heart! She is blessed. She is still waiting in Gainesville at Shands, and does so everyday with a smile on her face. Thank you all for the continued prayers and support! 12/16/13- Bailey is 6 years old and has had Dilated Cardiomyopathy since she was three years old. This year, she has also been diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome and recently had a defibrilator placement. Since the defibrilator has been put in, Bailey has contracted an infection, and not long after, while still in the hospital, has gone back into heart failure. She has been transferred from Wolfson's Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL to UF Health/Shands Gainesville, FL for a heart transplant evaluation. As of December 16th, she has been officially placed on the heart transplant list under category 1A. Although she's at the top of the list for a transplant because of the urgency, the wait time is indefinite. Bailey has always been and continues to be brave and in good spirits, even more so now as she waits patiently for her new heart. She is extremely bright and her smile lights up the room. Bailey is astutely observant and let's nothing pass her by. She reads incredibly well for a 6 year old. Her favorite "chapter" books right now are Junie B. Jones. She has also recently decided to be a pediatrician when she's older!! Bailey lost her older sister to the same condition over four years ago.
