Kaito's Health Fund

My name is Ariel and I am the mother of 9.5-week-old Kaito. He is struggling to keep weight on and he is having medical issues that we need to be able to pay for and can't afford. He has had issues with latching because his jaw was set back to far and he has acid reflux (bad). We have been going to a chiropractor that doesn't take insurance so we don't have to pay so much. We need to be able to pay for the chiropractor, his pediatric doctors visits, and liquid formula to keep his weight up. When he misses his chiropractor appointment I can tell he is in pain and needs to be adjusted as well as have his jaw stretched. Read more below about Kaito and his journey so far.

Kaito was born 7 lbs 6 oz and 18 in long. We are exclusively breastfeeding and he ended up dropping down to 6 lbs 12 oz by the end of his first week. The doctor had him come in a few days after that and he started gaining weight back (he was up to 7 lbs 2 oz). At one month Kaito was up to 7 lbs 11 oz and I was so proud he was finally past his birth weight! We had a appointment for WIC to get his weight checked and the scale said 7 lbs 3 oz (this was a few days before he turned 8 weeks). I was worried so we went back to his doctor’s office that day and weighed him on the same scale he has been weighed on since a few days old. He was 7 lbs 5 oz. The doctor had us work on feeding him more often and then weighed him again on 04/10/16. He weighed in at 6 lbs 11 oz and he's 21 in long. He is below the 5th percentile for weight and is right at the 5th percentile for length.

He has bad acid reflux to the point where he refuses to eat because it hurts him so bad. The chiropractor helps a lot, but it hasn't been enough so we now have to give him medication for it. At this age he shouldn't be on medication because it isn't good for his system so the doctor is insistent on keeping up the chiropractic care as well as seeing her every few days until his weight goes back up. In order to get him off the medication we need to work on keeping up those chiropractic appointments.

His doctor is having me supplement with liquid formula if I don't have enough milk. I have to feed him at least an oz an hour and sometimes I can only pump 2 oz in 4 hours. Kaito refuses to eat from a bottle and even breastfeed so sometimes I have to force feed him with a syringe, but I can't pump enough so I have to use the formula with him. I believe my pump motor is going out and because he doesn't latch properly he doesn't help my milk come in a whole lot. Also with him refusing to eat I have to supplement with the formula to make sure he is getting that oz per hour.

I honestly have no idea how many chiropractor appointments he's going to need, but I do know that he needs a total of $420 to keep up with 20 sessions of his chiropractic care. We have a medical savings card, but the money is almost up and we need to get him more sessions or we pay more money. It's $30 a session if we don't buy the passes. We have enough to keep up the sessions for this week, but after that we won't be able to keep up his care for the doctor or the chiropractor.

The money would be spent on getting Kaito healthy again without having to go into the ER. It would be spent on his chiropractor appointments, buying the instant formula, and paying for the pediatric care he needs.

My kids are my life and it hurts to see my children in pain. I look at Kaito and I can see every bone in his little body. He is close to 10 weeks old and still wears preemie onesies and barely fits into any newborn clothing. I have to be so careful when picking him up because of how tiny he is. I can't worry about not affording his care because I need to be worried about making sure he is healthy and eating.

We could really use this money before 04/14/16, but I understand that is pretty soon. The latest we would need the money by is 04/25/16. That is the day we will run out of funds completely and would end up needing more then what is put as the goal amount.

Anything helps. Anything you can give. Our family needs the help and we are so extremely thankful for all of the prayers that have been sent our way already. You would be giving me the ability to concentrate on getting him better instead of having to go without something that truly helps him and is making him better. We wouldn't ask for this if it wasn't a life and death situation. We are on the brink of Kaito being hospitalized and I want to do everything in my power to keep him from that. I will always and forever be grateful for any help that we receive for Kaito's medical expenses.
