I found Baby Backup in Dolores Park, San Francisco on June 15, 2008. He was just a little scrap of a thing (10 pounds,) but he stole my heart and I took him home. Through the years, we have had an agreement that he wouldn't cost any money besides shots & check-ups, but HE FORGOT!!! Last week he ate some tasty ribbon out of the craft box, and although we hoped he would just pass it...he had to go into surgery last night with Dr. Sunil Vasanjee.
Austin Vet Care did an amazing job with his pre-care before he was transferred to Heart Of Texas Vet Specialty Center.
I am a practical person, and did weigh the costs versus the risks before proceeding with these steps. If I had felt that his quality of life would have been greatly diminished, I would have had to sadly let him go, but the staff assured me that with proper care he would be back to his bouncy old self in no time!!!
I received a call from the surgeon this morning; Dr. Vasanjee removed 12 feet of ribbon from his tummy through a small incision!!! He is doing well with no intestinal damage, has made friends with the staff and is expected home in a few days.
Before he comes home, however, his bill must be paid. I am not eligible for Vet/Care Credit, and so, dear friends and pet-lovers, I am asking for your help to bring Baby Backup home! Luckily due to lack of complications, the cost is less than expected, but it is still a phenomenal amount of money~~about $4000-$5000.
Anything you can spare would be so appreciated by us both. Back Up has been my constant companion through joy and hardship for the last 6 years, and I'd like him to be my partner in crime for AT LEAST six more! We have agreed to donate any excess funds to Austin Pets Alive! so that other formerly homeless pets can find forever homes! (BackUp wanted to spend the money on Greenies and Kong toys, but I convinced him otherwise!)
