Hi there!
My name is Florencia Doval (Floppy) and I am a 17 y/o student and community leader from Asunción, Paraguay. I have incredible news! after an exciting and competitive selection process, I was nominated to be the first Paraguayan to study at UWC ISAK in Japan for two years to finish high school!
United World Colleges (UWC) is an educational movement that started in 1950, to promote a more peaceful world and a better future through international understanding, multicultural interaction, and holistic education. The UWC organization is considered one of the most audacious, visionary, and prestigious educational movement at an international level. Currently, the movement has 18 schools around the globe, in which students from more than 90 countries interact with each other for two years while studying the International Baccalaureate (IB)
More than 20 years after initiating activities in the country, thanks to the UWC Paraguayan Committee, the local representative of UWC, more than 60 Paraguayans have graduated in the many UWC schools around the globe.
Now that you know more about this incredible movement, I would like to share a bit more about me and my community!
Last year, I started a community organization with my neighbors here in Paraguay, called En la Plaza (At the square/park), where we aim to promote community action and participation in a territory through the revitalization of its public spaces. With projects and activities such as a neighbor giving free guitar courses for the community; young neighbors organizing a festival to discuss ways to connect and create a closer, safer, and better neighborhood; or painting murals about our neighborhood's history at the park and much more!
The experiences from this and last year made me eager to create more with my community, develop capacity building and structure activities to be community transformation catalysts for other surrounding neighborhoods. This is what I want for my future; I want to help in the mission of promoting quality and genuine connection in neighborhoods to create a safer and better environment for the people.
I know it is such a hard mission that requires time, love, patience, organization, and a lot of knowledge. I truly believe that the UWC movement can provide me with more tools such as community leadership perspectives, a global mindset for problem understanding, live and learn from one of the best education systems I can receive, and definitely, an opportunity to connect and discover with other young leaders and students.
I am beyond grateful for receiving this incredible opportunity, my goal is to absorb all the fruitful knowledge and experiences to come back with a stronger and visionary mindset for my neighborhood, city, and country. As well as encouraging more Paraguayans to apply, study abroad, and come back to help our communities.
After this experience, my goal is to establish an NGO in my country that will develop models of community action and participation through the revitalization of public spaces.
For this year, Paraguay had only 4 opportunities abroad, and I was one of the selected students to be a representative at UWC ISAK in Japan. In August I will be going to Japan to study at the International School of Asia, Karuizawa with one of the scholarships given by the organization that covers Food, Home, Education, and flight ticket.
Nonetheless, this travel and opportunity include and will include many more expenses:
Academic and personal expenses (School Supply – Hygiene), Visa, and pocket money.
The current pandemic context is representing a great economic burden for my family. For this reason, I would like to ask you for your vital support so I can get to finish school at ISAK without worrying too much about money and helping my family through this situation. It will be a pleasure to get mutual support and learn from this incredible experience together.

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Florencia Doval (Floppy), tengo 17 años y soy una estudiante y líder comunitaria de Asunción, Paraguay. ¡Tengo increíbles noticias!, luego de un proceso de selección emocionante y selectivo, fui nominada para ser la primera paraguaya en estudiar enUWC ISAK en Japón durante dos años para culminar mis estudios de bachillerato.
United World Colleges (UWC) es un movimiento educativo formado en los años 50, con el propósito de promover un mundo más pacífico y un mejor futuro por medio del entendimiento internacional, la interacción multicultural y una educación integral. La organización de los Colegios UWC es considerada uno de los movimientos educativos más audaces, visionarios y prestigiosos a nivel internacional. Actualmente el movimiento cuenta con dieciocho instituciones educativas en el mundo, en las cuales estudiantes de más de 90 países interactúan entre sí por un período de dos años estudiando el Bachillerato Internacional (IB).
A más de 20 años de haber iniciado las actividades en el país de la mano del UWC Comité Paraguay , el representante local de los United World Colleges, ya se han graduado más de 50 paraguayos en los distintos colegios alrededor del mundo.
¡Ahora que ya sabes más sobre este increíble movimiento, me gustaría compartir contigo un poquito sobre mí y mi comunidad!.
El año pasado, empecé una organización comunitaria con mis vecinos, aquí en Paraguay, llamada "En la Plaza ", donde nuestro objetivo es impulsar la acción y participación comunitaria de un territorio a través de la revitalización de sus espacios píblicos. Con proyectos y actividades tales como: Cursos gratuitos de guitarra en la plaza; jóvenes vecinos organizando un festival para planear formas de conectar y crear un barrio más seguro, cercano y mejor, o pintata de murales acerca de la historia de nuestro barrio y plaza, ¡y más!.
Las experiencias de este y el año pasado me dejaron con ansias y motivación para crear más con mi comunidad, desarrollar capacidades y estructurar actividades para ser catalizadores de transformación comunitaria para otros barrios aledaños. Esto es lo que anhelo para mi futuro, quiero aportar para la misión de promover conexiones genuinas y de calidad en comunidades para la creación de ambientes mejores y más seguros para la gente.
Sé que es una misión difícil, que requiere tiempo, dedicación, paciencia, organización y mucho conocimiento. En verdad creo que el movimiento UWC puede proveerme de herramientas como: perspectivas de liderazgo comunitario, una mentalidad global para el entendimiento de problemáticas, vivir y aprender de uno de los mejores sistemas educativos que puedo recibir, y definitivamente, la oportunidad de conectar y descubrir con otros jóvenes líderes y estudiantes.
Estoy más que agradecida por recibir esta increíble oportunidad, mi meta es poder absorber todos los conocimientos y experiencias fructíferas para volver a casa con una mentalidad fuerte y visionaria para mi comunidad, ciudad y, país. Así como también, alentar a otros jóvenes paraguayos a aplicar, estudiar en el exterior y volver para ayudar a sus comunidades.
Luego de la experiencia, tengo la meta de establecer una ong en el país para impulsar un modelo de acción y participación comunitaria a través de la revitalización de espacios públicos.
Para la convocatoria de este año, Paraguay sólo recibió 4 oportunidades para el exterior, y fui una de las estudiantes seleccionadas para ser una representante en UWC ISAK en Japón. En Agosto partiré rumbo a Japón para estudiar en el Colegio Internacional de Asia en Karuizawa con una de las becas otorgadas por la organización que cubre: Alimentación, estadía, estudios y pasaje.
Pero, aun así, este viaje incluye e incluirá muchos gastos en estos dos años, tales como:
Gastos académicos y personales (Útiles escolares – aseo), Gestión de Visa y Dinero de Bolsillo
La situación actual de pandemia está representando un gran pesar económico para mi familia. Por ello, quisiera contar con tu apoyo vital para que pueda culminar mis estudios en ISAK sin preocuparme en demasía por el dinero y poder ayudar a mi familia a atravesar la situación. Será un verdadero placer el obtener un apoyo mutuo y aprender de esta increíble experiencia juntos.

Para estos próximos dos años, el monto total aproximado es de 30 millones de guaraníes o 5 000 dólares. No busco sólo tu aporte monetario, sino el invitarte a invertir en mi educación, de manera que podamos explorar lo que la sociedad y humanidad tienen para ofrecer más allá. Esta esperiencia será única con muchas risas, esfuerzo, aprendizaje, conocimiento y perspicacia, Porfavor acompáñame en esta aventura y descubrimiento del conocimiento.
