Baby Avery's Heart Surgery

Our Sweet Avery was born with a congenital heart defect called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). In this defect there is a persistent opening between two major blood vessels which connects the lung artery to the aorta. This blood vessel helps the baby’s blood circulate while in the womb. After birth, this blood vessel, usually closes or clots off, but in Avery’s circumstance, it has failed to do so. If we allow the Patent Ductus Arterious to stay open it can cause too much oxygenated blood to flow through the heart, weakening the heart muscle and lead to heart failure or other complications.
