Autism Assistance Dog for JoJo

Donation protected
JoJo is our our sweet little 3 year old boy who was diagnosed with Autism and a Sensory Processing Disorder when he was 2 1/2 years old. JoJo attends preschool 4 days a week and recieves speech and occupational therapy both at school and privately.

JoJo loves playing outside, going to the beach, and going to the park. JoJo's favorite activites at home are playing with puzzles, playing with his trucks and cars, and coloring. JoJo is also very obsessive with number's and letter's. He loves counting and singing the alphabet. He has even recently starting spelling words on the fridge with his magnetic letter's! Not bad for 3 years old.

Having a child with Autism is a daily challenge. Most challenges we are able to handle and conquer! But one of the biggest challenges that we face is our biggest struggle! JoJo does not always respond to his name. When JoJo is outside he tunes everyone out and he is in his own world. If he is running and you tell him to stop, forget it he will ignore you and just keep going. JoJo also has the tendency to just bolt. He just takes off like a rocket ship so we have to always be on our toes and ready to run.

JoJo needs to almost always be held, hold hands, use a wagon, or a safety harness when in public places because he will just take off. He has no fear!

At the moment we always have to have all doors in our house locked at all times, we have secured our backyard so if JoJo bolts while playing we are able to catch him. We always have to go to a park the is completely fenced in so he can't escape. We have 4 cameras placed within the house so we can always monitor him from wherever we are in the house.

Then we discovered there are service dogs for children with Autism!!! We have found an amazing oragnization that trains Autism Assistance Dogs!

4 Paws for Ability

The cost of a Autism Assistance Dog is $14,000! Yes it is expensive but to know that JoJo will be safe will be such a huge weight lifted. The Autism Assistance dog will benefit our whole family in so many ways!

Most children with autism have no concept of personal safety, and can wander outdoors and into traffic. Autism assistance dogs have a very special ability to help with this. This is a trained ability that starts with the dog and the child acclimating to wearing harnesses and vests and ultimately, the child holds a handle from the dog’s harness and an adult is always holding another leash to the dog.

Trained assistance dogs can be the link between a child with autism and the world around them. Instead of stares and mutters of a spoiled child or the inability to parent, a service dog can alert the public that this child is a little different. By showing that interactions with other people are a positive thing, a service dog can help with the gross delays many of these children have in public or crowds. With its unconditional love and inherent patience, an assistance dog can lend far more support than any particular person or parent can offer by themselves.

Please Help JoJo!!!

*JoJo loves dog's as you can see, he is sitting on my brother's dog Bella. She is very tolerant of JoJo's behavior's.
