Augustine's Clinic

Spende geschützt
Diabetic children need insulin to survive.  In Liberia, this is a daily struggle. Augustine Koryon is a Liberian nurse who is making health care available for diabetic children in Monrovia. Even when Ebola was ravaging his country and the health system was collapsing, he continued to operate his clinic to ensure that a small group of diabetic children would survive. He now needs our help to keep his clinic open.

Every Saturday morning for the last five years, he goes to JDJ hospital, as a volunteer, to care for his patients.  He shows up to provide this care to children, because he knows that if he doesn’t, no one will. The necessary drugs and supplies are not available. Unwilling to accept this status quo, he secured small amount of funding to provide insulin to children in need.

Supporting this project is an effective way to support a local hero, who is deeply rooted and committed to the community he is serving, and who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and creativity to deliver care in one of the weakest health systems in the world.

Augustine is a former colleague of mine at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and on a visit this June I visited his clinic and met his patients.  I will send Augustine money on a monthly basis so that he can keep the clinic operational.  He needs $10,000 for the next six months to purchase insulin, syringes, glucose test strips, and the occasional transportation and lunch for a patient.   Please consider donating to support him and the future of the children he cares for.
