Audrey Flowers and Save One More

I have had many offer to help repay my expenses for my trip to the Houston area to help rescue folks.  That's not why we went.

I went because of my mother.  I couldn't get to her, but I could get to thousands of others like her, or almost like her.  I’m not sure there are any just like her.

My mother has very little.  Not because she's lazy, or unwilling to work, but because she is a giver.  She operates and runs Save One More, an animal rescue service, which loosely means she takes in stray and abandoned animals, and takes care of them all, at her expense.

Her neighbor has recently fallen to dementia/Alzheimer’s, and she takes care of him, feeding him three times a day, making sure he gets his meds, and shuttles him around.

When she’s not doing those things, she volunteers at the Bay Area Turning Point shelter for women.

Lastly, when she’s not doing those things, she owns and operates her own business as a process server and investigator.  Anyone that know her knows she will drop everything to take care of one of “her kids,” and that includes a slew of people that simply call her “Momma Kay.”

Her house in Dickinson, Texas was in disrepair before the flood, and it surely did not take as much water as many others, but it took enough to where I’m not even sure it’s worth saving. We were blessed in that there was not 5’ of water in it, to be sure.  That being said, it is likely a total loss.  NO INSURANCE. And yes, she probably coud have carried SOME insurance, but it would not have helped here, and the money spent there would have come from pet food and supplies funds, and she'd go hungry before those animals would.

Anyway, she made me, me.  Those that know me may think that is a good thing, or bad, and they are entitled to their opinions.  I just want to see her taken care of.  Her hardships are because of her giving.

There are many in South Texas needing help.  I know that.  This woman is my mother.

Anything will help.

The money will be used to repair her home, if even possible, or for relocation costs, for her and all her rescued animals.  Needless to say, pet adoptions in the Houston area will be unlikely at this time.  Rest assured, anything in excess will be given to others in need.

Did I mention she also volunteers on some board that helps to distribute grants to organizations in need?

Thank you, all, and God bless.

Mark Flowers, in Burleson Texas, her son.
