S.T.E.A.M.Students Need Science Lab

Donation protected
Atwater Avenue Elementary School has a problem – they have a Science Lab – but they can’t use it!

Help Them Hire a Science Lab Coordinator!

We are here asking for your support to help Atwater Avenue Elementary hire a Science Lab Coordinator so that the students will be able to take advantage of equipment the school has already purchased – and thus improve their foundation for a successful future! Please don’t let the science equipment sit unused for another year when the next Einstein could be waiting behind a desk!

Science Lab Coordinators Cost: $13,000 / year

Our Goal: Fund a Full Year (but beginning the funding for next year is also encouraged :) )

Timeline: May 1st, 2017

Atwater Elementary School is completing the transition into becoming a S.T.E.A.M. school to provide the children of Northeast Los Angeles an early foundation to be successful in college, work and life!

S.T.E.A.M. is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. The S.T.E.A.M. concept would integrate these subjects throughout the curriculum through Collaboration, Cooperation and Communication. Atwater students are problem solvers, innovators, inventors and critical thinkers that deserve to be equipped with the tools needed to maximize their learning potential!

Principal Jorge Rios has more than 20 years’ experience in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). He came to Atwater Avenue Elementary as a proponent of the S.T.E.A.M. transition in July of 2015. His experience as an administrator for 14 years, assistant principal for 5 years and his 8 years as principal at Malabar Street Elementary in Boyle Heights, have shown him the importance of integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics into student’s curriculum to foster passion for applicable knowledge and to provide a solid foundation for his student’s futures. He is dedicated to overcoming monetary restrictions by reaching out to the community to ensure his students have access to the best possible education.

WHO AM I?

I am Charlie J Coronado, a Northeast LA Native - Atwater Avenue Elementary Alumni - UCLA Bruin - Real Estate Broker - Local Business Owner and most importantly a Family Man. I am requesting your help because I have a debt to pay - Atwater Avenue Elementary molded me into the man I am today and I need to help them do the same for other Los Angeles youth.

When I began at Atwater, I was enrolled into the ESL program and struggled with reading and writing. The aspect I remember most about being there was how involved and dedicated the TAs (teacher's assistants) were, and how much they helped me improve. They took the time to not only make sure I didn't fall behind, but to make sure I pushed forward. I eventually tested into the gifted youth program and graduated cum laude with a double major in History and Sociology at UCLA. For this I am forever grateful.

I want to help other students get the same opportunity - to not only reach their potential - but to exceed it. I believe that the school's ability to hire a Science Lab Coordinator will give them this opportunity.

What I Will Do to Help
I will also be donating monetarily and with my time doing outreach for this cause. I will have a banner placed at the school to promote this #GoFundMe and am currently offering a $500 donation for any new clients who mention either the school banner or this account (I am a real estate broker so clients would mean home sellers or buyers in the LA area). I will make the donation in the name of these new clients at the close of their escrows. I will also spend time speaking with other local business owners and influencers, promoting the cause on my website and sending out a postcard to the surrounding community to foster as much support as possible.

I believe this goal is achievable and I would like to show the students of Atwater what a little effort can produce! I thank you for any and all support of this very important cause! There is no donation too small!
