Our Son, Christopher, is living with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, ADHD, and Bi-polar disorder. He is also adopted. He has be in an out of psych facilites and Residential Treament Centers. Soooo....when you adopt in Texas, you are promised tons of support from the beginning till they turn 18. Most people don't seek out the resources since most adoptions work out. In our case, where we have a son that needs intensive therapies and multiple inpatient stays, we have to manage it ourselves or have to keep asking for help with funding or support groups/education for kids with mental heal...th issues. This week we were told that we had exhausted our resources for Chris and would have to put him "Back into Foster Care" if we wanted to get him the help he needs. Because we asked for help, we now have an open CPS case on our family and are being investigated. Because Texas can't fulfill their promise to our "adoptive" family, Texas is willing to tear our family apart and make sure Chris knows that absolutely no one is there for him. He could possibly grow up in a Residential Treatment Facility or a Group Home. There was so much said in the meeting....and I was completely shocked, so I didn't write a lot of it down...but essentially, we will be sued by the state for custody of Chris and may be re-evaluated in a year. If his placement decides he hasn't improved enough, he will stay in care until adulthood and then.....who knows. Oh, and we have no attorney, since it costs approx $5,000 to secure one willing to fight CPS. Our court hearing is in two weeks. He can be removed from our home at any point from today.
