This is not just a vacation, it is a challenge. A challenge to raise the funds, train, honor my mother, help the others, and to ultimately finish the race. Hi my name is Kat Timer. Like many others, everyday life is a challenge. As an art school instructor, it is especially challenging after multiple vehicle repairs as well as college loan repayments. The RunAntarctica2016 Fund is not for those everyday challenges, it is to help me follow my dream of mine, a dream to run a marathon in each continent. The Antarctica Marathon takes place on King George Island just off the Antarctic Peninsula. It is a unique opportunity to challenge myself, learn a little about the ecosystem, and an opportunity to create beautiful unique artwork. The bulk of the fund will be used for travel costs to the very last frontier, the pristine continent of Antarctica. I am so excited about this opportunity, I have already begun strength, distance, and endurance training in anticipation of the long, cold run! I am willing to wear sponsor gear and logos during my run. I am also willing to gift my sponsors with original artwork created during my journey. For a generous donation of $100, you will receive an original drawing. For an even more generous donation of $300 or more, you will receive an original painted artwork.
This run is especially important to me as I am running in honor of my late mother. She lost her long battle with cancer last May.
She is my inspiration, to run and to devote my future to helping others to improve their quality of life, especially the elderly. I am starting with my dad. After her death, I have devoted much of my time to health studies and coaching, as well as training.
After the marathon, I plan to expand my focus to the elderly to help them to improve their quality of life. Any extra funding raised through this that isn't used for the travel expense will be donated to The American Lung Association.
