We all know and love Anita Webb. But there are many things that you may not know about Anita. She is a proud, strong woman and wants to always make her own way, but at this point her medical needs have put her in a position to accept help from her friends.

Anita has experienced profound hearing loss in both ears. She can barely hear her cherished musicians sing, voices have faded and her ability to commincate with her family, medical professionals and especially her beloved Grandson, Mikey’s voice. Mikey has Autism and communication is difficult with him even under the best circumstances. More than anything she wants to be able to hear and communicate with Mikey. Anita is one of the most active grandparents . She spends many weekends caring for Mikey to aid her daughter in the challenging task of being an Autism Mom. Anita needs to hear to be able to continue to be of service to her daughter and Grandson. Many of you know how important music is to Anita and the friendship she has had with singer-songwriter Todd Snider for well over 25 years now. Sadly, the music started to fade about 20 years ago. At this point, Anita has experienced 92% hearing loss in the speech range. Hearing aids are of little help now and can not help her hear enough to communicate efficeintly except in the best of circumstances. She endured two surgeries last year to reconstruct bones in her left ear and reconstruct the ear drum, however, not only was there no improvement, more damage was done. But there is good news!
The doctors at Vanderbilt University have given the thumbs up for Anita to receive highly effective surgery treatment. She has been pre-approved to get the Cochlear Implants that can potentially restore her hearing to the point she would be able to communicate efficentially. She'll be able to hear her family’s voices, to communicate with Mikey, and to hear lyrics to her favorite songs again. They are prepared to do this surgery sooner than later, however the expenses that will be incurred may hold up the process. We can’t let that happen! Anita is still paying on the co-pays for last year’s surgeries. In addition to those, here are some of the expenses she is facing:
* Co-pay for the surgery itself. (One ear at a time. Won’t
do the second one until the first is healed)
* A minimum of six trips from Memphis to Vanderbilt in Nashville for follow-ups in the first year. This includes paying for travel, hotel and expenses for each trip
* One year or more of speech therapy
* Co-pays for all of these visits
* Medications
