I, Angel Guidry, have been diagnosed with Mucosal Melanoma in Situ. Mucosal melanoma is a rare form of melanoma, making up less than 5% of melanoma cases. As with other areas of the skin, melanocytes, the pigment producing cells of the body, are also present in the mucosal surfaces of the body, lining the sinuses, nasal passages, oral cavity, vagina, anus and other areas. Just like melanocytes in other parts of the body, these can transform into cancerous cells, resulting in mucosal melanoma.
This is the third time Ive had Melanoma, in three years, and i'm only twenty-five. This is my first Mucosal. Lastly, this surgery will entail a lot more than the other two procedures. Luckly, its still in situ which means we caught it EARLY!!! My surgury is scheduled for July 22, 2014 at 8am. They will be putting me under Anesthesia, removing the cancer cells, and stiching me back together. As we all know, hospitial bills can get a little overwhelming so ANY HELP is greatly appreciated!
