I have always been passionate about riding bikes. One of my most vivid childhood memories is the day my parents gave me my first brand new bike. I'll never forget it - a Huffy BMX bike with a chrome frame and black accents. As I've grown, so has my passion for cycling. Riding a bike across America has been an ambition of mine for several years now. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to begin achieving this goal starting on August 21st, 2017.
As I ride, I hope to raise enough money to purchase at least two Rifton adaptive tricycles for the youth of West Virginia. If you aren't familiar, these trikes are designed for riders with physical and mental disabilities. The trikes are customizable and different accessories can be added to accommodate a variety of special needs.
For the past 5 years, I have worked for the Science Behind the Sport program at West Virginia University. I got to experience the positive impact these trikes make on their riders for the first time in July 2016. It was a day I'll never forget! The trikes you help purchase will become property of the WVU Science Behind Cycling program such that K-12 youth from all around the state will have access to them.
As you consider making a donation, take a moment to reflect back on your memories of the freedom and independence you felt (and hopefully continue to feel) when riding a bike. Much like the folks at Rifton, I believe that, "everyone deserves the chance to ride!"... I hope you do too!
