Andrew Wicker Cancer Fund

While other young adults celebrate their twenty-first birthdays with parties, our Andrew was at home on his twenty-first birthday (Thanksgiving Day 2012) reeling from the news that he has a tumor in his lower femur which was diagnosed as a High Grade Osteosarcoma, a very rare bone cancer. A biopsy showed the tumor to be an extremely aggressive sarcoma, as the tumor in his femur has destroyed the bone and joint around the knee. Andrew now faces leg amputation surgery (April 10, 2013) and a year of grueling in-patient and out-patient chemotherapy. 

                The youngest of six brothers and sisters, Andrew is truly a gentle soul. Life has had its challenges such as being diagnosed with a mild learning disability in grade school and his father passing away when he was ten years old. However, after years of hard work and with the support of a loving family, Andrew prospered and graduated high school with a standard diploma.  In October 2011, Andrew began a full time job working as a food handler at the New York, New York Hotel in Las Vegas where he resides with family.

                Andrew has a wonderful and caring support system - his mom and step-dad, older brothers, sisters, and their spouses, are giving their 100% to see him through this ordeal. However, with a limited unpaid medical leave from his job and limited medical insurance, Andrew will be expected to pay over $50,000 in insurance premiums, chemotherapy treatments and leg amputation surgery co-pays. 

                We love Andrew so much and we are all trying very hard to take any burden we can off his shoulders "“ it's important that he focuses on getting better and kicking cancer's ass right now!
