Alysia Graham Memorial Fund

At 3am on Friday, March 7th, my beautiful, blue-eyed, sweet, loving 21 year old daughter Alysia died in an apartment fire in Toronto, along with two of her roommates. She was the light of my life. We talked to each other 10 times a day and I still can't believe she's gone so suddenly from our lives. She was my best friend, my first born, my precious girl and I don't know how to live my life without her in it. My 40th birthday had been just the day before. We had made plans for her to come visit her little brother and I in March in Calgary to celebrate our birthdays together. She would have turned 22 on March 11th. Her birthday and that very much looked forward to visit never happened. When she died, she had let her personal life insurance policy lapse, leaving some insurance from her job, but nothing else. Her funeral expenses were unexpectedly high and I and my son have been unable to go back to work since this tragic event. I've since been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. I don't sleep for more than 3-4 hours at a time and no longer have any short term memory. My son is also struggling with his sister's death and his depression. These were expenses I was unable to budget for. Before this happened, I worked two jobs to make ends meet. I was taking classes to upgrade my skill set. Nothing has been the same since that horrific day. The expenses for traveling between Calgary and Toronto for my son and I, repeatedly, to deal with things, as well as the funeral expenses, etc. have completely broken me. We need your help with these unexpected funeral and travel expenses and simply to make ends meet right now. My son and I are devastated that she's gone and are trying to figure out how to go on with our lives without her. Alysia was full of potential, so smart and sweet. She had so many plans and so much life ahead of her. She was a truly good person, who genuinely cared about people. This site is the beginnings of a memorial in her name. A way to carry on without her. A legacy. Any funds raised over $5,000 will go towards starting a bursary in her name at a college in Toronto for a photography program. Please donate.
