LGBTIQ Support - Alpha Zulu Program

Donation protected
THE ALPHA ZULU PROGRAM (LGBTIQ – SUPPORT & PROTECTION SERVICES INC.) is an independent, Non-Government organisation that provides and assists other community organisations to provide a suite of confidential and community support services.

We assist people with psychosocial and physical health difficulties to better manage the challenges of everyday life in a non-judgemental environment.

Our focus is to assist those in need. Our unique approach is using the unique perspectives of the direct personal life experiences of each of our volunteers, all who have had their psychological or physical disability challenges.

Our volunteers are people from all kinds of backgrounds who have overcome challenges and are now equipped to better support and empathise with the needs of the people we help.
Direct experience is powerful and real; it is not learnt from a textbook, and we use these experiences to better support and understand those we help. Through this direct experience, our volunteers are better able to empathise, support and aid people who are in a similar situation.
We have “walked in the shoes” of the people we help, we understand the impacts these challenges can have and, we know what support is actually required.

Organisation Values: Honesty, Loyalty, Trust, Respect, Courage, Integrity & EQUALITY.

We recruit members to our organisation, who have been through personal psychological, social and physical health concerns. (Real life and lived experience)
The experience from our members & volunteers own lives means, we can offer greater empathy, understanding, advice and a unique personalised service relevant to each person.

We CARE because we have been there ourselves and want to help! We value the direct experience of our volunteers, who have “walked in the shoes” of those we help at some time in their own lives.

We focus on the integrity, passion and commitment of our volunteers to our organisational values whilst delivering a personalised service to our clients, rather than a list of qualifications a volunteer has accumulated on their CV.

The services we can provide include:

Health and Wellbeing Assistance.
We assist people to get the appropriate services for their unique health and wellbeing needs, to ensure they don't fall through the cracks of the public health system. Some clients have complex psychosocial and physical health concerns and may need services not adequately provided by government agencies or other social ventures/charities. For example, we may physically accompany people to medical appointments to provide support and provide basic case management tailored to their needs and what capacity the volunteers can provide given their experience and availability.

Employment Support and Assistance.
We provide resume tips and interview help from qualified and trained advisors within the disability employment services sector, Fair Work Ombudsman training services and Quality Service Framework training. We also provide referrals to other agencies as required.

Personal, Shopping and Daily Living Assistance.
We provide a personal/living out of home supported shopping service. For example, we help people to go shopping to aid those who have complex psychosocial issues such as agoraphobia, social phobia and severe anxiety. We help to minimise compulsiveness with shopping and assist with budget management and paying bills.

Housing Support & Assistance.
We assist people who "fall through the cracks" of the government system and help them to secure stable housing. We guide people through the credit checking process, assist them to complete rental housing applications, to access shared accommodation or other housing solutions and to navigate the blacklisting notification service (i.e. VEDA & National Tenancy Database) We are also registered with the RTBA (Residential Tenancies Bond Authority).

Upcoming programs to be implemented:

Homelessness & Crisis Support & Assistance.
The Alpha Zulu Program is setting up this exciting, new and needed project/service!
Our team of Support Work volunteers and management will be taking to the streets, meeting the people who are in need of some support, assistance, and offer them a warm beverage and a small meal if they need it. We hope to bring more personal interaction to these people so that the city feels like less of a lonely place to them.
In addition, we will be providing emergency relief and assistance to people who are at-risk and highly vulnerable, such as victims of abuse. This includes guiding people through the required check processes, providing referrals and advice and, assisting with completing applications and other administrative paperwork. We will be working alongside to provide these services in the future.
