Alesha's Angels in the Outfield

Alesha W. Goins, 38 (Indianapolis) was diagnosed with Stage IIIb Invasive Ductal Carcinoma ER Positive Breast Cancer in March of 2007 at the age of 31. Being a young, working wife and mother, Alesha's roll in all of those areas were immediately in jeopardy. Although terrible news to take personally, tears were shed by Alesha not for her diagnosis, but for the aching hearts of loved ones that would be hurt by this news. From the very outset, Alesha chose she was fighting not only for her life, but for the sake of her family and loved ones putting her role as Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt & Friend above this disease! Due to the aggressiveness of her Cancer, and it being attached to her chest wall, she was immediately placed on a 16 week neo-adjuvant chemo regimen in order to shrink the tumor to an operable size. After learning that the chemotherapy was successful, her doctors performed a double mastectomy. Through numerous follow-up reconstruction surgeries and treatment over the next two years, Alesha's journey was almost complete as she was told she had beat the disease and was in remission. Being overjoyed and moving on with her life, the impossible and unexpected happened -- after being told she could no longer conceive, Alesha learned that she was pregnant! Due to the high risk nature of the pregnancy, her doctors advised against the pregnancy and terminating via a DNC, but after many nights of prayer, Alesha and her husband chose to accept the blessing they had been given and move forward with the pregnancy. The pregnancy went very well until Alesha started having severe breathing issues during her 9th month. At first, these issues were chalked up to the extra pregnancy weight. However, after making two trips to the ER and having 40 total oz of fluid removed from her lungs, her doctor induced labor. Soon after giving birth to a healthy baby boy in March of 2010, Alesha was rushed into an emergency Thoracotomy in order to get her collapsed lung expanded again. The surgery was a success, but the results of scans and tests she underwent had shown that her once dormant cancer had come back with a vengeance during pregnancy spreading to her Lungs, Liver, Spine and Bones. Alesha was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastasized Breast Cancer, and due to the complications of the disease, she was told she could no longer work and would be lucky to get two more years. 3 years later, with the heart of a Lion, Alesha is still battling this disease! Through all of the pokes, prods, scars, blood and tears, Alesha is still the same selfless Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt & Friend anyone can ask for. Regardless of the flesh's condition, Alesha's spirit is still intact, and for that: she's won!


During these difficult and trying times with new medications for pain and to control the cancer is nothing short of a tiresome task to stay on top of everything possible. Alesha has recently been put on new medications that have been approved by the FDA but noting the key word here is "new" and with that comes expensive.


I am asking for some help for my wonderful and beautiful friend and her amazing family, not to pay off major medical bills, not to pay off medical debit, but to help them get ahead for an expensive drug that might help Alesha's chances of living a long prosperous life full of joy, laughter, and hope. Anything at all is greatly appreciated.
