Alert Dog For Kelley J

Hi everyone, thank you for taking the time to read my story. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a teenager and I do my very best to keep control over it. I check my blood sugar 6-8 times a day. I used to take insulin shots 6-8 times a day, but have started using an insulin pump that I change every 3 days. It is connected to me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This was to try and eliminate/reduce the hypos (low blood sugars -extremely low/unconscious in my case). While it has helped, I (and anyone with this disease) struggle daily to keep your numbers in control. What anyone with Type 1 Diabetes knows, this is a disease you have no control over. It is so difficult to manage on a daily basis. There are so many other factors that I have no control over that can change everything. I've had quite a few incidents where my blood sugar dropped so fast that I didn't realize it was happening and the paramedics were called and also been taken to the hospital from fear that "your blood sugar could drop again, as it often does, and you probably wouldn't have made it". Hearing a paramedic say that is very scary (my blood sugar when they arrived was 29).  When Your blood sugar is low you get disoriented, dizzy, shakey and your brain and other functions stop working because your body/brain needs sugar/energy to function. These episodes are so scary to go through for me AND my loved ones there when it happens. However, I can't have someone around 24/7 and that makes it all the more scary that 1 bad low could have a fatal outcome without someone there to help me.  The Diabetic Alerts Dog will help in that situation. I have done a ton of research on companies who have service dogs and they are expensive, because of the extensive training they go through. I've seen them ranging up to as much as $35,000. I have chosen a group that minimizes the cost as much as possible to make it more affordable to people who need the service animals, however it is still pricey.   So I am asking for your help, whatever you could do I will be forever grateful and please know that you are helping to save my life. Quite literally.
