Adam Scarf's Journey to Recovery

On October 19, 2021, our world was turned upside down. Adam collapsed while on vacation in Edmonton and was rushed to Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment. Following a series of tests, it was determined that he needed emergency surgery for a major brain bleed. Adam underwent successful surgery that same day but his path forward remains very much uncertain.

Adam’s immediate family flew down to Edmonton from Yellowknife to be close to him. Unfortunately, only one person – Adam’s mother Stacey – can be in the room with him as he recovers due to the COVID-19 landscape in Alberta. The rest of his family is close to him but can’t physically be with him in the hospital at this time. This is a heartbreaking scenario for everyone involved.

Recovery from brain surgery will take time. While this week’s surgery was successful, it remains to be seen how much damage the bleed actually caused. That will ultimately determine how long his recovery will be, and what possible deficits he may be left with. The next step is for Adam to wake up so doctors can determine the extent of the damage.

We want to support Adam and his family in any way possible. We are kindly asking for donations so that his family can remain close to him. Adam could be on a long road to recovery, and will need our support.

If you know Adam, he is very a kind, funny and talented individual with a larger-than-life personality that often makes him the centre of attention in group settings, he is the glue that keeps us together. We are thinking of Adam, Stacey, Brett, Austin and all of Adam’s family and friends at this challenging time.
