Dear Friends,

Each year, Asheville Middle School, in Asheville, NC, endeavors to take the 8th grade to the Outer Banks as a middle school culminating experience. This trip provides students with a multitude of academic and social experiences. Our students are able to visit historical sites, climb lighthouses, dissect marine life and experience a college campus. For many, this will be the first, and possibly their only, experience seeing the ocean.

Each year, approximately 200 students choose to travel to the OBX with their peers, and we have made it our mission that no student stays behind for financial reasons. We conduct many site-based fundraisers, seeking help from within our school community, but this year it seems that more students than ever before are in need of assistance. The all inclusive cost of the 4 day, 3 night trip is $450.00.  We travel March 27-30, 2017.

The importance of this trip for so many of our students is difficult to put into words. Some of our students have never been “down the mountain” before and are unaware of the wonders that not only our state offers, but the opportunities that life offers. This trip to the OBX is so much more than a school trip; it can truly be the experience that changes a child’s life.
