The Sekulic family is raising money for their daughter Helena’s urgently needed surgical treatment. Helena is four years old. She was born with a significant deformity of her right leg and is missing two toes and her fibula. Her right leg is presently 3 inches (7cm) shorter than her left one. Even with the help of orthopedic shoes, she moves through her days with great difficulty. Although she is a cheerful child with a great physical stamina she struggles knowing that she is facing a lifetime of severe disability.
Despite completing two major surgeries performed in Bosnia and Serbia at 7 and 18 months old, Helena now needs to embark on a complex series of treatments over the next 10 years. It is critical that this begins now. She is scheduled for her next surgery on November 18 2018 at Schön Klinik in Vogtareuth, Germany, as this type of medical treatment is simply not available in her home country Bosnia and Herzegovina. Any delay will make her full recovery unlikely.
Helena’s family is entirely reliant on the aid, compassion and support of others to give Helena the chance to be able to walk and play normally like other little girls. The Schön Klinik is one of the best hospitals in the world for this specialized treatment and is the family’s source of hope during these difficult times.
We are hoping to raise $72,000 for this immediate phase of her treatment in 2018 and 2019.

This would cover the cost of her care at Schön Klinik as well as transportation/accommodation costs for Helena and her parents for follow up appointments. The total 10-year cost is likely to be $175,000.
In the interest of full transparency, the Sekulic family is offering to share all the hospital bills and expenses that are lying ahead of them and Helena in the near future.
A little bit about Helena: she is a loving, cheerful and resilient little girl. She is extremely social and compassionate with others. When she’s not in her kindergarten, Helena likes to run her own ‘’daycare’’ at home with her parents, 7-month old brother Dusan and her puppy Bobby-Jerry as her full-time students.
