A Kidney for Brenda Vanderveldt

Donation protected
My name is Brenda. I am not a person who asks for help easily and I have never been a person to share personal details of my life.  Even though I am a private person  by nature I had to decide what was more important my privacy or my life.  I have decided to campaign for my life.

I don’t have one of those tear jerking stories of wanting to be around for my kids or needing to be here to find my husbands socks.  I have no children and am not married. But I do have friends and family that I want to see get older and be there to share life with them. My sadness at times comes from the thought of dying without being able to finish living.

In 2015 after three years of painful headaches and numerous visits to doctors it was discovered that I had a brain tumor which covered three quarters of my brain. This came to light during a routine eye exam on a Friday afternoon.  By Saturday morning I was having my first brain surgery.  God was good I was up and walking around the next day. I completed my second brain surgery in February 2018. This time followed up with six weeks of daily radiation. Again no major complications just some memory issues. During testing for that surgery it was “accidentally” discovered that I have polycystic kidney disease also referred to as PKD. It's inherited passing from generation to generation.  I am in stage 5, the last stage of renal failure. The only viable option I have is to receive a kidney transplant.

This is where I invite you to become part of my story. This is my reality. My transplant center has advised me that after reviewing my insurance plan I am still going to need approximately $28,000.00 for uncovered expenses for my kidney transplant. I will be unable to work for eight weeks and this money will be used to pay my co pays, anti-rejection medications, ongoing medical supplies, lodging by the transplant center for eight weeks, medical insurance premiums, basic living expenses, and short term home health care.

My journey has been big and daunting at times and all of it would have been overwhelming if I didn’t have God by my side, so I move forward by faith.

You can help me in several ways…                    UPDATE A DONOR HAS BEEN FOUND, SURGERY

Personal note from a friend:

Brenda has given so much of her time helping others. She has traveled at her own expense to Haiti three times to help give medical aid.  She is a CASA volunteer that helps children not get lost in the foster care program. She will stop and pray for anyone at anytime. This is our time to bless her!     Her friend Tammi
