Help Good Samaritan AJ Short

On Sunday evening, an extremely loud *CRASH!* drew the attention of everyone in our neighborhood.  A.J. Short immediately ran the block from his home to the intersection of Violet and 28th Street to see how he could help.  

No emergency vehicles had yet arrived, but he did not hesitate.  While he and another young woman were trying to assist the  person in the crumpled car, a drunk driver came upon them and crashed into the scene, hurling A.J. into the air and slamming him against the pavement far down the road.  He tried to protect the young woman who was helping, by pushing her out of the way of the car, but she was also hit.

A.J. sustained serious injuries and is being treated at Boulder Community Hospital.  He has a broken hip and leg, multiple cuts on his arms and abdomen, and contusions on his head.  He is pretty banged up, but getting good care, and we expect him to recover with the help of the good medical team and the support of his loving family, supportive friends, and church community.

A.J. is a Junior at CU, where he is studying Business.  He volunteers as a YoungLife leader, mentoring youth.  As an active member of Calvary Bible Church, he just returned in March from a six month service trip in Uganda.  He had been hoping to return there in June, but that will need to be put off for now.  

A.J. will obviously incur a lot of medical bills and will be unable to work for some time, due to this accident.  Sadly, we learned the driver who hit him had multiple DUIs,  a revoked license , and was uninsured.  It is unclear at this time how all of his financial needs will be met, so we are asking friends and neighbors who can donate to contribute what they can to help ease the burden on his family while he recovers.
