Alcorn’s Angel: Ryann Meo

Ryann Meo was a second-grade scholar here at Universal Alcorn Charter school. To use Ryann’s own words spoken in September, “I love school. I can’t read but, I love school”. But boy, she was beginning to read. Just last week in ELA, Ryann said, “I’m learning so many words. I can do it now. I can finally read”. You could see her excitement and effort for school every time you heard her speak or saw her work. 

The one thing Ryann loved more than school was her little siblings, a three-year-old brother named Zach and a 9-month-old sister named Katie Jo. On any day, they would make an appearance on the screen. Teaching virtually has been a challenge. However, Ryann loved having her family close to her. Ryann wanted to include her family in every activity and lesson that we taught. 

In the most horrific tragedy imaginable, a house fire broke out in the Meo’s home. Ryann and Zach were unable to survive the fire. They left this world to be in a better place, and together they gained their wings and became angels. 

We know Ryann and Zach are the most precious angels looking after their family from heaven. It is up to us to look after this family, from Earth. We are asking that we come together as a community and as an Alcorn Charter School family to support the Meo‘s in their greatest time of need. Ryann and Zach deserve a proper memorial, while the rest of the family has a long journey ahead to heal and rebuild their lives. Baby Katie, mom, and dad are all in the hospital recovering. Their lives have been forever changed.
