Support kaleb & Aaron in helping kids with cancer

Can you please kindly help kaleb and Aaron mission in helping kids with cancer in Ethiopia? Malnutrition is identified as a contributing cause of mortality in kids with cancer in Ethiopia. A little contribution of even $5 can make a big difference in their life.

My two sons Kaleb (11)and Aaron (9)have grown their hair to donate it to kids with cancer who lost their hair due to chemotherapy. Their hair measure 18 inch  now we are planning to cut it and donate to Wigs for Kids on February 4, 2021  because it is world cancer day .

Wigs for kids is an organization that gives free wigs to Children who have lost hair to cancer, burns, the autoimmune disorder alopecia, the compulsive hair-pulling disease trichotillomania and other causes.

The goal of this project is not only giving hair  also raising money to improve the survival and quality of life of Ethiopian children with cancer by helping the children get better nutrition, treatment, care and support.

The inception of this project dates back to April 2016, when we (My husband, I and our two sons Kaleb and Aaron) were living in Switzerland. It all started with watching a short documentary movie on the internet. The story was about a little girl whose name is Bridget who lost her hair after she received treatment (chemotherapy) for the cancer she had. A young woman named Hannah donated a 12 inch of her hair to make a wig for Bridget. When Bridget got the wig, the smile on her face and the joy of her mom moved Kaleb and Aaron. At that time, Kaleb was 7 and Aaron was 5 years old. They were so inspired that they asked me if they can also grow and donate their hair to that little kid they saw in the movie and when I told them it was possible they immediately decided to do that. Ever since then their hair hasn't been cut and is taken care of every day.

We were inspired by our sons. Their willingness to give part of their body to someone who is in desperate need of it was such a meaningful act of charity and selflessness. What has always amazed us is that despite many people including their peers at school commented about their hair and mistakenly referred to them as ‘girls’, they don't talk about it unless specifically asked why they are growing their hair. They know why they are doing this and they are determined to go through the pain of grooming hair daily and the bullying by their peers. This for us was the very essence of giving selflessly and from the heart with the only motive being doing something kind for someone else and see them smile. We wanted to stay calm, but also felt the responsibility of creating awareness. This selfless action of kindness by our boys inspired us and we not only felt responsible for sharing our story, but also for doing more to create awareness about childhood cancer and help to improve the care and treatment of kids with cancer in the world and specifically in Ethiopia.

"No one can help everyone, but everyone can help someone”

Kaleb has published a VCD album at the age of 6 and he donated the money of his VCDs to help the cause previously. They were  rewarded a certificate of appreciation from our previous health minister Dr Amir Aman

Finally, let us share the important message we read about “Guilt Trips” of parents of children with cancer. Many parents battle with guilt-

• thinking they have done something that caused their child to have cancer
• for not seeing the symptoms sooner
• for not being able to do more, remove pain, improve the situation
• for not believing stronger, hoping more, fighting harder
• because their child is at the hospital

The thing is, we can live unhappy with issues we cannot change, or we can let go. Let's make the most of today and do something to change the life of kids with cancer by donating what we can.

Thank you so much for all what you do may God bless you!
