Accessible Van for the Dane Family

Donation protected

One of the economic realities of raising children who have disabilities is that buying a safe and accessible van to transport kids who use a wheelchair is expensive. The cost is about 2x that of a regular minivan, which is outside of the budget of many families. We are one of those families. We are hoping to raise at least enough money to cover the adaptations done to make a new van completely accessible.

Just a little bit about our family....Joseph is 10yr old and Mikayla is 4yr old. Joseph was born full term with a rare brain disorder called Schizencephaly. Mikayla was born 8 weeks premature and has a similar brain disorder called Porencephaly. Both children share some common diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, Periventricular Leukomalacia, and Epilepsy. Joseph uses a wheelchair for mobility. Mikayla is not yet walking but she is practicing and learning to use a walker.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to transfer Joseph from his wheelchair to the special needs carseat. Joseph is unable to provide any assistance during transfers and safety is becoming a serious concern. Being able to purchase an accessible vehicle that would allow Joseph to stay in his wheelchair while in the van would be a blessing to say the least.

Thank you for any help you can provide and for taking the time to getting to know our perfect little family.
