Rainbow Hope School Bathroom & Dorm Project

Donation protected

GOAL #1: To raise $8,500 to build a new bathroom block at Rainbow Hope Secondary School, located in the community of Mangochi, Malawi.

GOAL #2: To raise $6,800 to build a new dormitory for female students at Rainbow Hope Secondary School.

Malawi, in southeastern Africa, is one of the poorest countries in the world. In Malawi most people are struggling to live on less than $1 a day while the average American lives on $160 a day.

This April We Are Travel Girls is taking a group of women to Malawi on our third annual Safari & Charity Trip with The Responsible Safari Company. Part of the trip will be spent with the students at Rainbow Hope School where we participate in group mentoring and the money we raise with this campaign will help us give back to the community and the school as part of this trip.

The Responsible Safari Company (who we partner with) works on empowering the communities in Malawi rather than solely having them rely on fundraisers. With this in mind, they begin with the younger generation, like the students at Rainbow Hope inspiring them to be ambitious, stay in school, complete their education with the hope of going on to college.

Many of the students at the school are entrepreneurial-minded and part of our time spent with them is dedicated to discussing becoming an entrepreneur in their country and how important their education is in helping them to achieve their goals. To give more students the opportunity to attend Rainbow Hope, and for more girls to be able to board at the school we are raising funds for a new girls dormitory to be built and new bathrooms.

GOAL #:  NEW BATHROOM & TOILET BLOCK DETAILS

CHALLENGE: There needs to be better sanitation at Rainbow Hope School particularly for the girls who currently do not have anywhere to dispose of their sanitary waste products or a healthy environment to wash up.

OBJECTIVE: To convert the existing bathrooms at Rainbow Hope School to provide better sanitation for the students. The plan would be to provide flush toilets (and septic tank) and bathroom block for the boarding students to also use (with up to 8 showers).

GOAL #2: NEW DORM ROOM DETAILS

CHALLENGE: The girls at Rainbow Hope Secondary School are in desperate need of new dorms due to overcrowding. Girls at the school board to allow them to stay focused on their studies, avoid commitment to domestic life and reduce the chance of early marriages and teenage pregnancies. Boarding also allows them to avoid having to travel far distances daily to and from school. And with the new solar power, it also allows them to study in the evenings.

OBJECTIVE: To raise funds to build a new dorm block for the girls at Rainbow Hope School which will decrease over-occupancy in the current dorm and allow 30 additional female students to board.

On our last trip to Malawi, we personally saw how inadequate and unsanitary the current bathrooms are at Rainbow Hope School. And we saw how cramped the current dorms are - they are currently sleeping on bunk beds with two girls per bed on each of the bunks. So both a new bathroom and a new dorm are desperately needed!

It is hard to explain how much this fundraiser will impact the lives of the students at Rainbow Hope School - our donations will allow many more students to stay in school and complete their high school education. Every penny we raise for this campaign will go towards building a new bathroom block and a new dorm for the students. Please donate if you are able and please help us get the word out by sharing this campaign.

Thank you so much for caring and helping us improve education for students in Malawi!
