My name is Irene and I am Andrew’s aunt. I grew up with his mother, Lovelyn, and have watched Andrew grow into the spirited young man that he is today. Andrew, now 14, is a fun-loving, loyal boy who loves to sing, play video games, and the alto saxophone. He is very cheerful, smart, and quiet, but observant.
Seven weeks ago, Andrew started complaining about headaches and dizziness with symptoms of nausea and vomiting soon after. Following repeated visits to the ER, he finally received a CT scan and MRI, in which they found a 29x14x26mm arachnoid cyst in the left frontal lobe of his brain. We were shocked and devastated, especially when the doctor said that immediate surgery was necessary.
It has been 7 weeks of pain and discomfort for Andrew. He has not been able to go to school or see his friends. He was lucky enough to have a procedure scheduled at the USC Medical center, where he will undergo a left frontal craniotomy for tumor dissection. He will have to stay in the hospital for one week with a 4-5 week recovery thereafter. Their insurance does not cover the entire procedure, and his mother will have to take a leave from work to be with him full time during this period.
Our goal is to raise $25,000. This will help minimize the effect her lost wages will have on her family, and assist Lovelyn, a recently single mother of 3, with the medical expenses, co-pays, and medications.
Andrew will be undergoing surgery this weekend, so they are in urgent need of your help. Despite the difficult circumstances, their family remains hopeful. It’s not easy to see loved ones blindsided with such hardship. Please consider sharing this with as many people as you can. Even small contributions will make a difference.
