When I was a teenager I was racked with terrible nightmares for a short time. I couldn't sleep well, tossing and turning all night. Every night that it became too much to handle, I would pad softly to my little brothers room and he would sleepily crawl into bed and tell me everything was ok until I fell asleep. He was six. You see...my brother has always had a heart bigger than his need for uninterrupted sleep. Then and now, he just can't turn away anyone in need. My brother Sean has always been one of my best friends.
For those who do not know, my brother was recently diagnosed with HIV. While a devastating and heartbreaking blow, I am bursting at the seams with pride on how my family and countless others have instantly and rock solidly bound together around him to support. At 22 Sean is currently working two jobs to independently support himself, though that's about all it covers. The average cost just for medications (not including testing, doctor visits or hospitalization for hiv related illnesses) is up to $3,000 dollars a month. It's estimated that just one person with HIV will pay over a half of a million dollars. It's uplifting to know that with proper treatment, HIV is a livable disease now. But you have to be able to pay the cost. When you have HIV you need medical attention and medication to live. If you do not buy those things, every month, you die. Harsh but true. It's terrifying...and emotional.....for me to think about my brothers start of a life long battle to prop up his failing immune system. But that is the reality of the situation. This is where we need your help. Any help. Together we can purchase time. You can buy pieces of my little brothers life.
All donations will go towards helping with the cost of treatment, medications, HIV related illness cost, hospital and doctor visits, improving wellness/health. Sean has applied and been accepted to programs but still is amassing medical bills. I can't wish away my brothers disease. No matter how hard I try. But hopefully together we can help make this terrifying time as easy as possible on him.
