Todd is a retired veteran, who was severely injured in Iraq. He was blown out of his vehicle by a road side bomb and now suffers from severe/chronic PTSD, TBI which is Tramatic Brain Injury which affects his memory, balance and causes persistent migraines. He also has spinal fractures, and an ankle replacement which cause him daily pain.
About a year ago we found out that he was exhibiting signs of exposure to depleted uranium. This started as a bacterial infection, which upon further testing showing that he had isotopes in his system (this is basically radioactive elements in his blood system) which until then laid dormant but have become active.
He’s been experiencing severe nausea, weakness, debilitating pain which only allows him to have about four hours of sleep at night (on a good night) and then even then he deals with nightmares and flashbacks. He’s had biopsy’s, scans, ultrasounds, and more tests and medications than I could even list. And yet he’s still having these same issues a year later, that have even gotten worse. His newest scans and ultrasounds have shown that the lesions have grown into a bigger cluster mass, and he’s in so much pain that his appetite has almost become nonexistent. He’s now slipped further into depression, because the doctors aren’t sure how to treat him, and the worries that this could become even worse are frightening. We are so grateful for the doctors at the VA, but appointments are few and far between because of the overwhelming amount of patients to doctor ratio and because of budget and insurance issues.
To take Todd to a doctor outside of the VA would require us to pay directly out of pocket and we are already struggling to pay co-pays, bills, and meet our regular financial needs. But we reached the point, after a year of this continuing and worsening, that we need another solution. All funds will be used to cover medical expenses, to see other specialists outside of the VA, as well as any other financial needs we may have.
So if you feel it in your heart to help, you’ll never know how much we’d appreciate it! I can’t express the amount of gratitude we will feel for anyone who chooses to bless us in our time of need!
