My Cat was Shot

To some he's just a stupid cat. To me, he's the little baby I bottle fed when he was just days old. Many of you may remember his antics during covid as his persona prisoner 8675309. Today he was shot by the worst of cowards. He is a neutered kind of scardy cat. He runs from people and won't spray. 
Someone took a .22 caliber gun with a full metal jacket and unloaded six rounds on him as he was running away. I don't know if it was in my own backyard, but they did hit him once. The bullet went through and through. But when it did it hit his lung and came out his larynx. He has what in humans would be called a sucking chest wound. His visit to the regular vet came to $700 today. They don't have night staff for ICU patients so he had to go to the emergency vet. The bill for ONE day with them and minimal treatment is $1800. He will need surgery to survive and he is a mama's boy. Since I bottle fed him with my neighbor Stacy Murray filling in while I was at work, we are his people. I called him this morning and he came. I thought since there was a crackling in his ribs he had been hit by a car. The vet's office though a bb gun. Another vet looking at the X-rays saw the shrapnel and knew he had been shot in the back while he was running away with a full metal jacket .22. 
He's only almost 2 years old and I'm not ready to say goodbye.
Please help me save him!! The ER vet says their fee will be $5600 for the weekend and that is before surgery. Yes, it's a lot for a stupid cat, but he's my sweet stupid cat and I love him very much!
