Surgery for Pepper

Yesterday morning, my friend Julie woke up intending to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of adopting her adorable fur baby, Pepper.  Pepper, was not in the mood to celebrate, however.  Julie's normally snuggly and lovable companion was noticeably very uncomfortable and began vomiting.   She tried taking Pepper out for a walk to try and further observe her, and when Pepper went to the bathroom, there was blood in her urine.   After speaking with her vet and learning that Pepper needed immediate attention, Julie took her to the emergency room.  A $2,000 consultation later, Julie learned that Pepper had bladder stones and would need emergency surgery, which would cost an additional $8,000.  

I know that these are hard times for many of you right now.   They are hard for Julie, too.  Like so many, Julie has been unemployed for 8 months as a result of the pandemic.  She is an arts worker, who prior to the shutdown of her entire industry, performed regularly, including as a principal in Frozen at Disneyland in California.  Honestly, she is a go-getter who always has a million things going on, and I am in awe of the passion with which she pursues her career.  If not for the pandemic, she would not be in this financial situation where she cannot shoulder the burden of a $10,000 vet bill.

To those of you that may be thinking, "it's only a dog," I implore you to understand that Pepper is like Julie's child.  She is a part of her family, and not getting Pepper this surgery is not an option.  Without it, Pepper would not survive.  Whatever you can give will be so appreciated, and any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in Julie and Pepper's lives.
