Before medical school, I thought I knew what I wanted academically as well as professionally, but then medical school happened and it colored my thinking and challenged me to ask myself some difficult questions. One thing that has remained consistent has been my dedication to primary care. Prevention and education are the very foundation of my professional values and aspirations. Working in underserved communities around the world, especially in the Caribbean, South America and Africa, is a dream that I hope to fulfill one day.
During my professional career, I aspire to obtain a Masters of Business degree, so that I can gain better knowledge of the business/administrative aspect of healthcare. One of my ultimate goals is to establish a comprehensive pediatric hospital, based in The Bahamas, for the Caribbean. As I apply to residency programs this year, one of my decision criteria is exposure to clinical, research and administrative areas of a hospital. I hope to learn not only how to be an excellent clinician but also how to effectively manage a hospital. I envision this hospital catering to every country in the Caribbean as a premier facility for pediatric care as well as partnering with other pediatric hospital abroad, for research and teaching purposes.
I am a 4th year medical student and will be applying for residency programs this year. For those of you who don't know, this is, on average, a 3-year training program in a specific area of medicine which eventually leads to board certification in that particular field.
I hope to apply to Internal Medicine-Pediatrics combined residency programs which consists of 4 years of training in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
The process of applying to residency programs begins in September 2014 and is very expensive. Medical school itself is very expensive and considering that the 3 exams that are taken in order to graduate amount to almost $3,000, my pockets are beyond dry. I need your help!

40 Med-Peds = [$92 + (10 x $9) + (10 x $15) + (10 x $25)] = $582.00
50 Pediatrics = [$92 + (10 x $9) + (10 x $15) + (20 x $25)] = $832.00
30 Internal Medicine = [$92 + (10 x $9) + (10 x $15)] = $332.00
TOTAL: $1,746.00
I'm asking for $2,000 for the residency program applications + the administration fees.
So here's a good incentive to donate: when you donate, guess in which state that I'll match and if you get it correct, I'll share out 10% of my first paycheque. For example, if 10 people guess the correct state then I'll share 10% of my first paycheque with those 10 people.
