Hello!
My name is Aldana Caceres. I am currently a third-year student at the University of Maryland where I am pursuing a bachelor's degree in Architecture with a concentration in Construction Management.
For those of you who don't know, I have recently been accepted to complete a spring semester abroad program in Florence, Italy. As an architecture student, this is a unique opportunity to study architecture in the birthplace of the Renaissance while experiencing the sites I’ve learned so much about through my studies.
When I initially learned about the opportunity to study in one of the most culturally vibrant cities in the world I knew I wanted to try to make it a part of my college experience. At the time, I did not know how I would finance it, but after much encouragement from my advisors and close friends I decided to apply.
Studying abroad does not come without its financial challenges. I was able to commit to the program thanks to the support of a special group of individuals who have offered me personal loans. In addition, I have been awarded federal loans through UMD’s financial aid. While these loans will certainly help lessen the immediate financial burden, it is not enough to cover all the expenses of living abroad for a semester, such as food, transportation, course materials, etc.
This is why I am turning to you--my family members, friends, and community who have supported my journey and growth through the years. With your continued support and contribution, whatever it may be, I will be able to continue to pursue my personal and academic goals this upcoming Spring semester.
