Laura's Wheelchair Accessible Van

Laura was born with a genetic disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type III. She started showing signs of the disease when she was eighteen months old and she was diagnosed by the age of two and a half. She has always overcome every challenge that has been thrown at her, no matter its level of difficulty. Four years ago Laura entered the hospital for what everyone thought would be one spinal revision surgery. However, sixteen surgeries and two years later, Laura finally came home. The amount of challenges that she had to overcome and the extremes to which her and her body had to undergo in order to do so, is unfathomable. But as always, Laura fought her way, is back to being healthy, and has returned to college. However, she is no longer able to dorm at school as she is no longer 100% physically independent since the prolonged hospitalization. She has been working to become fully physically independent for over two years. She has also earned her driver’s license in the past two years to gain her independence in other ways as well. There’s only one problem: in order to drive, she needs a custom modified van with specific technology inside. Once Laura has this van she will be independent from having to rely on someone to bring her anywhere she needs to go, even to the grocery store or to run a quick errand. The whole process of getting Laura on the road has been a long one, but the van is currently being built. Now the challenge is being able to pay for it.
