Hello my name is Shelby Jayne Weaver and I am proud to say that I have been nominated for academic recognition as a Scholar representing Shawnee High School and the State of Oklahoma to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders to be held November 14-16 2014, in Washington, D.C. The Congress is a highly selective national program honoring academically superior high school students dedicated to the service of humanity in medicine. I was selected because of my outstanding academic record, leadership potential and my desire to contribute to the profession of medicine as a physician or medical scientist. As an enrolled Scholar I will be eligible to compete for a full medical school scholarship ($185,000) and one of two $10,000.00 medical school scholarships. My attendance at the Congress will enrich my academic profile and distinguish me as one of the most promising future leaders of medicine, when I am applying to colleges or universities. However, it does cost to attend the Congress and there will be expenses of travel, food and lodging for myself and my mom. I am 16 years old with a 4.0 GPA and near perfect school attendance record. I have a part time job and also have chores at home. I also love my dance classes at Grace Dance Center. My father died before I was born and my mom is my half sister that has guardianship of me. My mom is a single mother and I am the youngest of her 4 children. She works very hard to provide for me and my older brother, she just bought me my first used car and she simply can not afford the entire cost of this. But I know she will do whatever it takes to get us to the Congress. I have overcome so much in my short life and I just want to make a difference in the world. I believe attending this Congress will help me prepare for a career in the medical profession so that I may help others. So please help us by donating any amount you can, it is very important to me to become a medical professional and show everyone, it does not matter what hand you are dealt in life, You can turn it around and make something great of yourself.
