Let's Shine The Light of Hope

The Samaritan Center's mission is to improve the mental, physical and spiritual health of children, adults and families. They provide professional counseling, integrative medicine, community education and prevention services that are accessible and affordable for all. https://samaritan-center.org/ 

This organization is special to our hearts for the services they provide because we both know first-hand the lack of support and resources for those who experience  mentally health challenges.  Elizabeth and Adam, our two oldest, who were adopted in 2008, both are diagnosed with a mental illness called, Reactive Attachment Disorder.  This disorder is common with children and adults who have experienced some form of trauma.  In the case of our kids, it was early childhood trauma from abandonment and neglect.  Not very many people are aware of it, but we remain persistent in creating awareness and being open about discussing about our everyday life struggles raising children with this mental illness. 

As Mom, Cynthia has made changes to our family routine to accommodate getting them to their therapy sessions weekly.  The counseling helps provide them tools to use in their daily decision-making, and it gives them a private resource to speak their minds when they find it too hard or challenging to open up to us, their parents.  These therapists have also helped the two of us have a clearer understanding of how our children’s minds work, what they can potentially be feeling in certain circumstances, and they give us tools to use too; how not to react, what questions to ask, etc.  

All this said, if mental health issues were not experienced in our own home as they are, we could not testify like we do now, the importance and need for more resources, the professional counselors. 

So…longer story short, we're on a mission to raise funds for the Samaritan Center.  As a non-profit, they depend on donors to keep the organization afloat.  We are strong advocates for people getting help when needed and an even stronger advocate to have the helping people in place.  The help we're asking for is a donation to support the Samaritan Center.
