In the wake of losing countless friends and acquaintances to overdoses, it’s clear that our community is missing critical elements in education and response to an ever-increasing opiate addiction epidemic.
In the wake of these tragedies, I’m taking an active role in helping New Orleans fight the opioid crisis. There is so much fear and stigma surrounding addiction, and it's killing us.
I’ve dedicated myself to learning practical first responder skills, and eventually, using those skills to work with local non-profits to expand their efforts, but also working as an underground mobile first responder for Narcan administration in emergent situations.
But, I need help.
I've been accepted to Delgado to take the EMT Basic Certification course this summer. This course is only one semester long, and is eight credit hours (approximately half-time), at $170/credit hour. Here’s a look at the fee schedule http://catalog.dcc.edu/content.php?catoid=24&navoid=3090#tuition
There will be books, uniforms, and supplies to pay for as well. On top of all the expenses that are directly school-related, I'll have to cut back on work. I have the support friends and family when it comes to housing, transportation, and food expenses, but your help would mean the world to me.
Unfortunately, I’m not eligible for financial aid for this academic school year. The FAFSA application looks at your tax returns from 2015 to determine eligibility. In 2015, I was married. On paper, it looks like I can afford college. In reality, I’m nowhere close.
Please help me make this dream a reality. Anything you can pitch towards this helps not only me but our community fight overdoses and save lives.
