Jade's Journey

Fundraising on behalf of my 9 year old niece, Jade Kelly, diagnosed with an Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

The cover photo was taken on October 17th at the Pumpkin Patch. A perfect October day in Nebraska.  The next day, everything changed when a bump on Jade's wrist was discovered. Out of Mother's Intuition, she was immediately taken to the ER for x-rays. Two weeks, more scans, covid tests, and a surgical biopsy later it was confirmed that Jade has an Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Our hearts are broken but the fight is just beginning.

This Tuesday, November 3rd Jade will be undergoing a PET scan to determine if the cancer has spread. Please PRAY - no spread!

The scan will determine treatment plan but here's what we know for certain:
- A port will be implanted in her chest next week to reduce the amount of sticks and pokes this next year. All medication and chemo will be administered through the port.
- In patient chemotherapy for a few months requiring 3-4 nights in the hospital for the first 6 treatments
- Limb saving surgery to remove the tumor, hopefully in Omaha but may need to see a specialist out of state. They are unclear if she will regain full function of her wrist after surgery.
- After surgery, another half year of chemotherapy to the finish line
- Lifetime of checks and Canceraversaries

Jade has been a fighter from the start, born a premie at 31 weeks and weighing only 3 lbs. We know she is going to beat this but we also know this is going to be a long road to remission, and want to make her as comfortable as possible through this awful experience that no child should have to endure.

All donations will go directly to Jade's medical bills, treatments, home healthcare, and medications as well as adapting her bedroom and hospital room to make her more comfortable. Her parents will be missing a lot of work that PTO won't cover. They are told to expect many hospital stays between treatments for the common cold and illnesses since Jade's immune system will be down from the chemo.

I've always told people that my sister, Jade's Mom, is an angel on Earth. She is a nurse and her stories have always left me in awe that there are people in this world that can bring joy during times of illness, pain, even grief. She cares for the sick, the elderly, the mentally ill with strength and resilience. One of the few times I've seen her break down was during this pandemic helping COVID patients say their final goodbyes to their families over iPads, and now during this darkest hour receiving Jade's diagnosis. It's our turn to return the love, generosity, and support that she has dedicated her life to giving others.
