Bone Marrow Transplant
I have Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a type of bone marrow cancer. MDS is the same disease that Robin Roberts of Good Morning America had. The only hope for a remission is a bone marrow transplant. I will be having the transplant at Stanford Cancer Center. I live in Santa Rosa, CA, approximately 120 miles from Stanford. Once I have the transplant, I must live very close to Stanford for a minimum of 100 days, as well as a caretaker with me at all times. Fortunately, my boyfriend who is retired will be taking on this responsibility.
I receive Social Security Disability. My Cobra medical insurance including co-pays is easily $800.00 per month.
I have sold just about everything of value that I had, including my horse, truck, and ex-husband!
My daughter is pregnant with my first grandchild, whom I definitely want to meet and love! Recently found out she is having a boy! She is due the end of October. Hopefully I will be able to go home by then.
We leave for Stanford tomorrow, June 22, 2014. Can't believe it's here so soon! Next week is basically classes for me and my caregivers, Friday is catheter placement in my chest, and Sunday I get admitted to the hospital.
I appreciate any help I can get.
Thank you!
