Hi, my name is Travis and I love taking care of freshwater and saltwater aquarium fish. In fact, after seeing my fish tanks, others have been inspired to join in the saving and feeding of these amazing creatures!
Many chain stores often sell fish, but they lack the knowledge and don't train their employees to take care of them. This makes me sad, and I often want to buy them all, but I know that the money they make will only go to more mistreatment of our cute water friends.
So instead I support small fish store owners, who have been in business for decades. One store owner who has a shop near my work maintains and cares for a variety of freshwater and saltwater aquarium fish. The fish store owner along with his wife have been taking care of fish for a very long time, and are experienced, but because of these chain stores popping up, they are finding it harder and harder to support their business. They rely heavily on the support of fish enthusiasts like us to keep them going. There are only about 4 or 5 decent fish stores left in a 50-mile radius of where I work, because the chain animal stores are taking over the neighborhood! I used to support one small fish store, but eventually once a major pet store moved in the area, even giving away free hot dogs and soda wasn't enough to get people to visit. Soon these fish loving experts will be no more, and only big greedy businesses who don't take care of their fish will take over. That's why I support small fish stores who have people like you and me who love fish.
Anyway, in order to support them, I buy many fish and fish related items regularly (plants, food, etc.). I also try to gain more and more experience from these fish experts to keep happy and healthy fish of my own. But such care of fish can be expensive! On top of buying all the equipment, there is also the regular feeding of the fish, the maintenance of the aquariums, and the electricity needed to run all the heaters, filters, light fixtures etc.
By donating you will be supporting the feeding and maintenance of aquarium fish, and in turn be supporting small fish store owners. Depending on how much support I get, I could even donate further resources to create better aquarium environments for these creatures! At the very least, thanks for reading this, and hopefully you also can give homes and support to our aquatic friends.
