Pacita needs your help to ensure that she can safely rest and recover from the kidney and liver transplant she's waiting to receive. She will need between 3-6 months to recover from the organ transplant, during which time she will be unable to work and support herself financially.
Pacita has polycystic kidney disease, and first received a kidney transplant in 2009. In 2017, Pacita began experiencing health problems that were ultimately found to be caused by a kidney infection. This infection and other complications mean that Pacita will experience kidney and liver failure within the next 2-3 years.
Pacita is currently on the transplant list to receive a double transplant of a kidney and liver. This surgery will also require the removal of the failing organs, which increases Pacita's risks and recovery time. It will be impossible for Pacita to work a regular job during her recovery period, so Pacita needs your help to pay for her groceries, bills, and medical costs while she recovers.
We are collecting funds for Pacita in advance of her transplant surgery because:
1. Receiving an organ transplant is not a scheduled event. It may take weeks to months to years before a suitable organ (in this case, two!) is available. Transplant recipients are notified of an available organ only hours before the surgery takes place. Collecting funds now will ensure that Pacita has immediate access to funds whenever she is able to receive a transplant.
2. Pacita will need enough funds to financially support her through months of recovery. The sooner we start collecting funds, the more we can collect in advance to ensure there is no lapse in financial support during her recovery.
