This fundraiser is set up on behalf of my brother, Patrick 'P-Nut' Smith, to help cover treatment costs for heart complications.
Early morning on January 3rd 2018, Patrick had walked to work as he usually does, but was found face down on the floor shortly after by one of his managers. He had fallen unconscious and busted his lip on the tile floor and was picked up and taken to the hospital by paramedics.
My brother woke up in the ambulance and was told his heart was beating abnormally fast and to try to stay calm, he was given medication in the ambulance to regulate his heart beat but by the time he was admitted it was back up.
After a series of tests such as an EKG, chest X-ray, ultrasound of the heart, and a multitude of blood work drawn, it was determined that the cause of the irregularity was due to Arterial Fibrillation. This meant that the tissues in his heart were allowing incorrect electrical signals to cause an abnormal heart rhythm.
To remedy this issue a procedure called Cardiac Ablation was done by sending a catheter from an artery in his thigh up into the heart to scar and destroy the heart tissue that was negatively effecting his heart beat patterns.
The procedure was a success and after several days being admitted to the hospital, Patrick was discharged and is currently spending time to recover at home. However these procedures do not come cheap, and being without health insurance means they will be much higher than he or his family will be able to cover for many years.
All funds raised from this will be going directly to my brother Patrick and will be used to cover every day expenses from the time he has been unable to work. Any remaining from then will go into starting to pay off medical bills so it won't be as big of a financial burden on him as he is already setting aside any money he can so he will be able to move out of his current apartment when the landlord finalizes the sale of the property.
