Here's a little bit about me. I am a Coast Guard Veteran, California Native. Transplant to Alaska Commercial Fisherman. On Feb. 12 2014 I was travelling in Thailand. I spent the day cleaning up garbage and swimming on a remote beach on an Island, Koh Lanta. At 5:30pm in the afternoon while riding a Motorbike back to my hostel my life changed forever. I was going to take a shower and meet up with friends after a routine day at the beach. A large truck in front of me hit the brakes while cornering to the right around a turn in the road. I slowed down as well and my front brake locked and slipped in the sand as i fell and slid underneath a guard rail. Thankfully I was wearing a helmet. As I slid off the road I hit my leg on the guard rail and fell down a 15 foot drop to land in dirt and bushes. The first thing I noticed was my left leg hanging by a small piece of skin and muscle. I had broken my tibia and fibula and most everything was seperated from from my body. I was going to die on the side of the road. Miraculously approximately 2 minutes later a guy jumped down to my location and said. " I am an emergency room surgeon from Germany I am here to help you". What a miracle! At that point I knew I would survive. Dr. Jakob C. Bernlochner saved my life. After 40 days and countless surgeries at Bangkok Hospital Phuket. I finally was on my way home to the United States. Shortly after my arrival in Santa Barbara California I went to a local orthopedic surgeon to follow up with my injury to hopefully start physical therapy and get my life back. Bad news. My leg was infected and I had a bacteria in my body from Thailand. I was rushed to the local Cottage hospital where a team of extrordinary doctors removed the intramedullary nail from my leg and put back in place an external fixator. Starting from square one again. I underwent a couple surgerys and now I am at home recovering with family. I do have health insurance however it does not cover enough and I am unable to work at this time. I applied for disability through Social Security and that takes time. The bills are rising and I don't know what to do. Every penny will help. I just wan't to get back to life. I have a positive attitude and always have lent a helping hand to my friends and family and strangers too. If there is anything anyone can do no matter how small I would appreciate it more than you can possibly imagine. I will do my best to pay it forward. God bless.
