We are Schenectady Belmont Pop Warner and we are in grave danger of failing over 300 youth in the city of Schenectady! Our program is lacking the necessary funds to continue. WE NEED YOUR HELP AND WE NEED IT NOW!!! Over recent years the cost to maintain equipment, stay in compliance with regulation, cost of liability insurance and rental of facilities has sky rocketed, there is nowhere else to turn at this point. Several of us have dug so deep into our own pockets over the past few years that this has no longer become and option, but a necessity.

The Belmont Pop Warner organization began in 1960 as Mont Pleasant Pop Warner, founded by local football enthusiast Pat Riccardi. By 1966, teams from Rotterdam, Colonie, and Guilderland joined Mont Pleasant, and from that point on, MPPW took off and grew to upwards of approximately thirty different teams. In 1970, the Mont Pleasant program merged with Bellevue Pop Warner to officially become "Belmont Pop Warner". After the passing of founding President Pat Riccardi, George Rose became president of Belmont Pop Warner, and holds that position to this day. During the 1970's we had several successes, in 1976 one of our teams was invited to play in a bowl game in Fort Bragg NC, which they won. After being one of the first teams to leave the state of New York and win a bowl game, they finished the season with a stellar 9-0 record. Also that year, as their athletic accomplishments were combined with their school marks, they were ranked number three in the country as scholar-athletes. These successes continued, on the field, as well as in the classroom. Over the years,Belmont has won seven Pop Warner Super Bowls, as well as having many of the players and cheerleaders going on to become scholar-athletes. We are a tremendous support to our youth and their families in the Mont Pleasant area. With the determination of the Mont Pleasant and Hamilton Hill area, Belmont Pop Warner has been a constant positive influence to many young men and women in the community- THIS WILL BE A LOSS, not only to the sport of football and cheerleading but to many generations of children growing up in this area.

Currently, approximately 300 children a year participate in the program and have five different divisions of play, with cheerleading for each division. We have the numbers, we have the coaches, we have the parent volunteers and we have an affordable registration fee that is comfortable to our community. Unfortunately with the rising costs that we have no control of, we can no longer afford to sustain and it is our fear THAT WE WILL HAVE TO FOLD PRIOR TO THE 2014 SEASON!! THESE CHILDREN WILL NOT HAVE ANYWHERE TO GO . WE ARE PART OF A COMMUNITY; we care for these children from August 1- November 30th. Currently we rent the facilities at the MP Middle School! PLEASE HELP SAVE WHAT SO MANY OF US HAVE COME TO LOVE AND HELP SAVE IT FOR THE CHILDREN IN OUR AREA!!!!!!
