PARRIS of the CARIBBEAN...the battle for my PhD in A.I.
Matthew Parris is my name and my designation is a proud son of Trinidad and Tobago and while my story may be a little different my need for YOUR KIND SUPPORT is the same as so many of us who have to make these appeals. I thank you in advance!
After almost 18 months of a solo struggle, I must urgently raise the required funds for ongoing tuition (past due), transport to the university and living [London, England] at a challenging cost of twenty-five thousand pounds sterling £ 25,000.00. If I can meet all or most of the demands of tuition and living finances, I will receive my PhD degree in May of 2023 in A.I. Automated Recognition of Suspicious Activities.
To help you understand my situation, the break down looks like this:
· PhD Candidacy:
In mid-September, I completed all of the required coursework for the degree and passed my doctoral comprehensive evaluation exam. I’m now a doctoral candidate at the University of Buckingham, UK and for the next 2.5 years I intend to continue working assiduously towards the completion of my dissertation certification in A.I. Automated Recognition of Suspicious Activities.
· Tuition:
I’m in debt to the University of Buckingham for the remaining tuition remuneration, which is past due, as it covers the rest of the program through 2023 in the amount of. I am grateful to the University since I was able to qualify for a 40% reduction in tuition based on the need for my A.I. solution and my dedication.
· Living and Work:
I currently live in London, but due to COVID and remote classes, I was spared a daily fare between London and the University of £70 and 4.5 hours of train travel to and from the University. What I have done in the past is walk 1 hour, sometimes 2, to and from my home to pick up a train at a further train station to the university to reduce the cost of the daily train fare. My hope is to move to an area close to the University so that I can avoid all future transportation costs for meetings with lecturers, seminars, and sessions with my advisory teams; these I must attend in person now that I am a candidate.
To date, I’ve submitted numerous job applications per week over the last months trying to raise funds but have not been able to secure work due to my work visa limitations and university requirements. Currently, and with some help from my family and friends back home, I pay a monthly cost of £200 for room and board at a distant relative’s and I am truly grateful. However, it is often difficult to study within a demanding schedule which requires me to work into the early hours of the morning and sometimes sleep in. Living in a basic room near the University would be most cost- and time- effective avoiding upcoming transportation costs and giving me back the hours I need to study and build my A.I. systems. A basic room at the University for the year would cost approximately £7,000. My hope is to also find a part-time job at the University or in the surrounding towns in a less competitive area than London.
· Technology:
At the moment, I’m working on a used computer that I saved for and bought 2.5 years ago. I’ve had to replace parts, but fortunately, it held up sufficiently well during the months leading up to my comprehensive examination. Two weeks prior to my examination, a friend allowed me to work from his home because my computer was too slow to crunch the code and deliver the full extent of the A.I. presentation I was preparing. I am eternally grateful to my friend. Without his help, I wouldn’t have been accepted in the program as a candidate. All in all, I need a new computer that will support the complex A.I. code at TPU rate. The appropriate computer will cost between £3,500 and £4,000.
My back story emphasizes my economical challenge, and unfortunately, my hard-working family members can now only contribute non-financial support as I’ve depleted all their funding reserves. My major challenge is that as a foreign student I am only allowed specified working hours which is prohibiting my earning opportunity with any company given the current pandemic.
Your FUNDING SUPPORT would be immensely valuable and appreciated given these unforeseen circumstances. With your contribution, the road that I must take to put my A.I. solution out to the public for our women, children and humanity can possibly continue through me while heralding a brighter future for the coming generations.
I have self-propelled to this point with the aid of a few charitable individuals that are truly God-sent in these times.
