Hammer & Saw: Youth Building Community

We are very excited to announce the formation of a new non-profit organization here in Vancouver:

Hammer and Saw: Youth Building Community!

We are an organization committed to cultivating community connectedness and hands-on learning for marginalized youth in Vancouver. Our goals are to empower youth through transferable skills training in wood and metal-work, and to build projects that respond directly to community identified needs.  Hammer and Saw is built around the principles of experiential learning, namely that participants learn and grow best through first-hand experience. Renee Michaud and Tobias Atkinson, who are both graduates of BCIT Technology Teacher Education, are the founders of this organization and will also be the program's facilitators.

Our goal is to run a 2 week pilot this summer with 15 youth participants from East Vancouver, and we need to raise $5000 in order to pay for program supplies, shop space and a lunch program for the youth. We need your help!

Again, this funding will make it possible for us to acquire a community work space, tools and materials required for our community project, as well as provide a lunch program. We have the skills, passion and the framework to make Hammer & Saw a reality, and this money will make it possible for us to offer an inspiring first experience for our participants and build a strong foundation for the future of our organization!

Please feel free to get in touch with us if you have any questions. Thank you so much for supporting youth empowerment, skill building and community connectedness in East Vancouver!

Feel free to check out our website and keep an eye on our Facebook page.

With gratitude,
Tobias and Renee of Hammer and Saw: Youth Building Community
