Friends don't leave friends behind:that's the way it should be. But on June 13, 2013, it wasn't.
My son, Zachary Taylor Denaro, just 15 years of age, was on the beach enjoying the evening with friends when he was beaten to the point that he suffered a trauma to his head. Not one friend or bystander thought enough to phone the police or an ambulance. Instead, because of their fear, they hid him behind the reeds and left him lying there for at least twenty minutes. Had just one person immediately summoned the courage to make that phone call, my son would have received medical attention sooner and would have had a chance to live. Instead, just two days later, on June 15, 2013, Zachary passed away.
The pain that his twin brother Dylan, my husband and I live with on a daily basis is insurmountable, something no family should ever have to endure. But we have decided that Zachary's death should not be in vain, and we created the Friends Don't Leave Friends Behind Foundation. Our mission is to educate and gain support to further expand the 911 Good Samaritan Law in the State of Florida. We need to empower teenagers, students:everyone:to make the right decision when they would otherwise hesitate or, even worse, abandon the person.
But funds are needed to attain this goal, and we are asking for your help.
On Sunday, June 22, 2014, The Friends Don't Leave Friends Behind Foundation is holding its First Annual Gala Auction and Luncheon, "A Day in the Sun". Your support will help defray the cost of this important fundraising event, the proceeds from which will be distributed to several causes:
The Good Samaritan Educational Scholarship, in honor of Zachary Taylor Denaro
The Palm Beach County & Broward County Fire and Rescue to help educate children on the importance of 911 to save lives.
To fund our State Legislature in amending the current laws and creating new laws to help save lives.
We are counting on your help, and your donation is tax deductible.
Don't let Zachary's death be in vain. Help us in our quest to ensure that no one is ever again left behind.
