Saving for Seamus

Seamus Robert Mersing was born on May 3, 2014. He has congenital birth defects, and underwent his first surgery at only two days old, on May 5, 2014 to correct an esophageal atresia and to re-route his trachea. He will remain in the NICU for several weeks, and will likely need future surgeries. He is missing a thumb on one hand, has a deformed forearm, and it is not yet known whether he has ear canals. The good news is that he is beautiful and strong and has the very best parents in the world! Seamus' parents, Rob and Shavon Mersing, live in Anchorage, Alaska and have four other healthy young children. Rob is a contractor and Shavon is a hairstylist. They are both wonderful, loving, generous, compassionate people with an immense amount of faith. Although they have health insurance for Seamus, they are still facing tremendous medical expenses, as well as lots of time off from work to be with Seamus during this critical time. They are also trying to juggle child care responsibilities for their other children, as well as the day-to-day running of their home. They really can use all of the help that they can get! I am a firm believer that, in times of need, a community should step up and help each other in any way that they can. I know that Rob and Shavon are the kind of people that would do absolutely anything to help someone in a similar situation. But at this point in time, they are the ones in need of help.
